The Department of Urology and Transplantation Surgery at Smt. G.R. Doshi & Smt. K.M. Mehta Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC-ITS), Ahmedabad, is one of the premier centres for advanced urological and renal transplantation services in India. The Department of Urology was established in 1991 and has since evolved significantly, with continuous advancement in clinical services, surgical expertise, academics, research, and transplantation.
The department provides comprehensive management of a wide spectrum of urological disorders, including endourology, laparoscopic urology, robotic surgery, pediatric urology, reconstructive urology, urological oncology, stone disease, and kidney transplantation. It is also a major centre for renal transplantation, performing a large volume of kidney transplants and offering advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical facilities.
The Department offers the M.Ch. (Urology) super-specialty programme, a 3-year postgraduate course, providing extensive exposure to clinical urology, advanced urological surgery, endourology, laparoscopy, robotic surgery, pediatric urology, urological oncology, and renal transplantation. The total annual intake is 6 M.Ch. Urology seats.
The M.Ch. programme is affiliated with the Gujarat University of Transplantation Sciences (GUTS), established in 2015 as a specialised university dedicated to transplantation and allied sciences.
